You don’t have to grow up when you launch a toy company.
Rockabilia, the largest independent online retailer of licensed music merchandise, has launched Encore Toy Co., a company selling collectible vinyl figures designed by and inspired by icons of the music industry. Its first figure will be of Milo, the mascot for legendary punk band the Descendents.
Encore Toy Co. is owned by Frankie Blydenburgh, Co-Owner of Rockabilia, and David Stowe, Owner of Vannen Watches. Together, they plan to create collectible vinyl figures designed by and inspired by icons of the music industry. Fans of vinyl figures or punk icons can pledge their support through the company’s Kickstarter campaign.
Encore is seeking a $45,000 investment. Fans can receive a Descendents sticker pack ($5), an exclusive T-shirt with art by Chris Shary ($35), of the seven-inch figure ($65). Stretch goals include accessories for Milo: a round-bottom glass, cup, a newspaper, Everything Sucks LP, and exclusive colorways. Founders Blydenburgh and Stowe have also offered to get fan-selected Milo tattoos. The campaign ends Jan. 25.
Milo, a caricature of the band’s lead singer Milo Aukerman, first appeared on 1982’s Milo Goes to College, the Descendents’ first LP. The mascot has appeared on every LP and EP since and can be found on everything from mugs to T-shirts.
