Despite the fact that the box office smash hit is still showing in theaters nationwide, fans can now bring Wakanda home with Black Panther on DVD and Blu-ray.
Marvel Studios’ Black Panther broke box office records, earning nearly $700 million in the U.S. and more than $1.18 billion internationally. According to Forbes, Black Panther enjoyed the biggest February opening weekend, the biggest non-sequel opening weekend, the biggest solo superhero launch of all time, and more.
The film tells the tale of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), a young African prince who (after his father dies in Captain America: Civil War) becomes king in his home of Wakanda, an African nation that enjoys extreme technological advancements thanks to an abundance of a powerful substance known as Vibranium. In addition to becoming king, T’Challa also takes on the role of Wakanda’s fiercest fighter and superhero: Black Panther.
Not your average superhero movie, Black Panther may revolve around T’Challa, but fierce females take leading roles in the groundbreaking film, including Wakanda’s women warriors led by general Okoye (Danai Gurira), his Queen mother (Angela Bassett), and his tech-star little sister (Letitia Wright). It’s also the first superhero flick in the MCU to feature a predominately black cast, with stars including Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Daniel Kaluuya, and more taking center stage. The film earned a 96 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and won the hearts of critics and viewers alike, breaking racial and gender barriers like never before.
