Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” beat two legendary records.
The 1975 anthem is not only the most-streamed 20th century song in the world, but also the most-streamed classic rock song of all time, according to Variety.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” and its original music video from the band’s A Night at the Opera reached more than 1.6 billion streams worldwide across all major streaming services.
Lucian Grainge, chairman and CEO of UMG, congratulated the legends and their longtime manager Jim Beach on the achievement, which he called, “a testament to the enduring brilliance of Queen.”
Grainge said in a statement, “’Bohemian Rhapsody’ is one the greatest songs by on of the greatest bands in history. We are so proud to represent Queen and are thrilled to see the song still inspiring new fans around the world more than four decades after its release.”
The recent biographical film about Queen and its lead Freddie Mercury helped the song reach this milestone. However, the feat is no surprise, as the single is definitely everyone’s go-to karaoke song.
Queen guitarist Brian May responded to the achievement in the most rock way possible, saying, “So the River of Rock Music has metamorphosed into streams! Very happy that our music is still flowing to the max!”
The biopic movie surpassed $600 million at box offices worldwide, including $175.1 million in domestic earnings following the $51 million earned on opening night, according to Forbes.
