Just when you thought Bezos-led Amazon couldn’t get any bigger, the e-commerce giant is now bidding on all 22 of Disney‘s regional sports networks that the company recently acquired from Twenty-First Century Fox.
New York-based YES Network, most notably responsible for televising New York Yankees baseball and Brooklyn Nets basketball, is included in the bid. Fox currently owns the network, which did not submit in the first round. There is potential, however, for a second round bid. Fox acquired its 80 percent interest in the YES Network through two separate transactions back in 2012 and 2014.
In addition to Amazon, Apollo Global Management, KKR, The Blackstone Group, Sinclair Broadcast Group, and Tegna also made first-round bids for the networks.
A second round of bids is expected before the year ends.
