Amazon Games today announced a deal with Embracer Group’s Middle-earth Enterprises to develop and publish a new massively multiplayer online (MMO) game based on The Lord of the Rings franchise. The new game will be set in Tolkien’s Middle-earth and give players the opportunity to experience their favorite moments from The Hobbit as well as The Lord of the Rings.
The game is being developed by Amazon Games’ Orange County studio, the same developers of the company’s existing MMO New World. Amazon Games is clearly eager to release its own The Lord of the Rings MMO, as this new announcement follows Amazon’s cancelation of another The Lord of the Rings MMO project planned to be developed by game maker Leyou prior to its purchase by Tencent. Now, this new game will be fully developed and published by Amazon itself.
