AMC and MoviePass got some beef.
AMC recently announced AMC Stubs A-list, a new loyalty program offering movie-goers the chance to see up to 12 movies per month for a fee of $19.95. Members are entitled to three movies a week at any of the 650 AMC locations, including access to IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and RealD 3D films.
“We believe that our current and future loyal guests will be interested in this type of program, as AMC Stubs A-List rewards guests with something that no one else offers: the very best of AMC, including IMAX, Dolby Cinema and RealD 3D up to 3 times per week, for one simple, sustainable price,” AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron said in a statement.
Aron’s mention of “sustainable price” feels like a direct diss at MoviePass, which has been losing millions of dollars monthly, as they charge members monthly rates as low as $6.95.
While MoviePass has a lower price point than AMC’s Stubs A-List, there are some perks offered with the new program that MoviePass does not offer. AMC’s Stubs A-List places no restrictions on movie format and allows users to purchase advance tickets as well as spur-of-the-moment sales. The program also includes other incentives, such as free upgrades on popcorn and soda and no online ticket fees.
MoviePass has some opinions. TBH, this drama is better than any of the movies I’ll see in theaters ?!
Heard AMC Theaters jumped on board the movie subscription train. Twice the price for 1/4 the theater network and 60% fewer movies. Thanks for making us look good AMC!

Pass the popcorn, this is getting good!
AMC has repeatedly disparaged our model as a way to discourage our growth because all along they wanted to launch their own, more expensive plan. We want to make movies more accessible, they want more profit.
