Atari is celebrating its golden anniversary next year, and that means the games are about to begin.
Well, technically speaking, the games began in 1977, but the company Atari was founded on June 27, 1972. The celebrations of the gaming company’s golden era started last June with the release of the Atari VCS Videogame Computer System and new products will be on the way all throughout the next year.
Starting now, fans can find a limited supply of T-shirts featuring the new Atari anniversary logo — dubbed the “GoldSchool Sunnyvale logo” — on Atari’s website. The shirts are also available as part of limited-edition, anniversary Atari VCS bundles on atarivcs.com. Atari will announce additional licensing collabs next year, which means even more merch!
Of course, there will also be video game releases as part of the celebration. The 50th Anniversary Games Collection will debut next year, featuring remasters of Atari classics with new content that explores the games’ origins and their impact on the video game industry. There will be some new titles for gamers to enjoy, too, including Atari’s Food Fight remake.
Where would the world be without games like Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, and Pong? Thankfully we’ll never have to know — and that’s worth celebrating! Head to the official Atari anniversary site to keep up with all of the products, promotions, and more!
