Have you seen Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odyssey?

If not, you may want to check it out after watching the teaser trailer for Barbie, the first-live action movie from Mattel Films and Warner Bros. Audiences attending James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water last night got a pink-hued surprise with a first look at the much-buzzed-about Barbie from filmmaker Greta Gerwig. Check it out below!

This is the true definition of a teaser. It simultaneously delivers nothing and everything all at once — a glimpse into the Barbie world that leaves you hungry for more. And 2001? If you haven’t seen it, there is a monolith that signals evolution as apes are encouraged to touch it. In this case, the monolith is Barbie and the evolution she brought to the doll aisle.

Barbie cruises into theaters on July 21, 2023.
