If you were harboring any doubts about a female superhero movie’s ability to succeed, just take a look at Captain Marvel’s box office stats.

The Brie Larson-helmed Disney movie has surpassed $1 billion in global ticket sales — generating $358 million in North America and $645 million overseas — and it’s still in theaters! Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the movie also stars Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, and Annette Bening.

Captain Marvel is the seventh Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) flick to hit this billion-dollar milestone. It joins Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, The Avengers, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3. As for Disney overall, this is the company’s 18th movie to gross more than $1 billion. The MCU’s 21 films have collectively garnered $18.5 billion so far, and who knows what that figure will be once the highly anticipated, internet-breaking Avengers: Endgame hits theaters later this month.

Larson will make her Avengers debut as Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) in Avengers: Endgame, which should come as no surprise if you’ve seen Captain Marvel, since a post-credit scene teased the superhero as the universe’s last-ditch hope against Thanos.
