From Dungeons and Dragons to Game of Thrones, the path to worlds of magic and swordplay is often rooted in experiences shared as children. Some stories take inspiration from timeless tales told through the ages, and this January a new generation will experience a fresh take on one such tale. The legend of the mythical Sword in the Stone is reborn in The Kid Who Would Be King. Check out the epic new trailer below, along with a fresh batch of newly released character posters.

From writer/director Joe Cornish (Attack the Block, Marvel’s Ant-Man) comes the story of Alex (Ashbourne Serkis), a kid who thinks he’s just another nobody, until he stumbles upon Excalibur. Now, he must unite his friends and enemies into a band of knights and, together with the legendary wizard Merlin (Sir Patrick Stewart), take on the wicked enchantress Morgana (Rebecca Ferguson).

See The Kid Who Would Be King in theaters on January 25, 2019 from Fox Family Entertainment.
