While The Flash might be known as the fastest superhero out there, the upcoming DC movie starring Justice League’s Ezra Miller is slowly taking its time.

A new report from Variety indicates that due to his Fantastic Beasts’ commitments, Miller will not be available to film the DC movie during the schedule originally planned in 2019.

The film will continue development so Miller can shoot the third Fantastic Beasts in July 2019, and possibly do The Flash after that by the end of the year, which would put the standalone DC flick on track for a 2021 release.

While previous attempts at The Flash fell apart due to creative issues, this new slow-down seems to be due to timing conflicts. Fantastic Beasts is two films in to the five-film franchise commitment. More delays on the DC film give directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein more time to finesse the script, as rumors have suggested they have switched the story around in recent months.

The Flash was never actually greenlit and the original release date was set for this year. While other DC films may have rushed production to the box office, it clearly didn’t work too well for the company. And so, with new bosses, it seems like new DC films will take extra care of the beloved comic characters. And with other DC films in development, it’s likely one of those could take The Flash’s original release date.

Miller’s take on the Flash in Justice League was praised by fans, so perhaps it’s worth waiting a little while longer for a Flash feature film with a great script and a worthwhile portrayal of the hero.
