Rumors started circulating yesterday within the video game industry, but the official announcement came this afternoon: This year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) will be canceled due to concerns related to COVID-19.

According to a statement posted on the E3 site, the video game show — originally scheduled for June 9-11 — will not be rescheduled, and the Entertainment Software Association team will reach out to exhibitors and attendees directly with information about full refunds.

The organization is also exploring options for hosting an online showcase, which would share industry news and announcements that exhibitors had planned for the convention, this June. Updates for this online event will come from e3expo.com.

The statement also notes that next year’s E3 is scheduled to go on as planned.

This cancelation is the latest in a list of events canceled or postponed due to the virus, including Emerald City Comic Con, South by Southwest, and Coachella.
