Despite all the murder attempts and Gargoyle Kings running around, Archie and the rest of his teenage squad are still in school learning about math and stuff. But it looks like Josie is ditching Riverdale High and leaving the Pussycats behind for a new life. The CW ordered a Riverdale spinoff pilot called Katy Keene, starring four Archie Comics characters in their 20 as they move to New York City, and Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) is one of them.
The show will focus on fashion legend-in-training Katy Keene, who was one of the characters in Archie Comics, making her first appearance in 1945 as “America’s Queen of Pin-Ups and Fashions.” The CW spinoff is a musical dramedy, so it only make senses that Riverdale’s resident singer, Josie of Josie and the Pussycats, will run away to pursue her rock star dreams. The spinoff will time hop several years ahead, so Murray will play a 20-something version of Josie instead of the teenage Josie fans know from Riverdale.
The other two major characters have not been announced yet but this isn’t the first time executive producer and writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has expanded on the Archie Comics universe. He also plucked Sabrina Spellman from the Archie Comics world to create Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
