Sony released the official teaser trailer for its upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood film and I just have a lot of questions. Really. Somehow the trailer manages to look awesome and tell us little to nothing about the plot. On the other hand, Brad Pitt + Leonardo DiCaprio + Quentin Tarantino = WHO CARES TAKE ALL OUR MONEY.
In all seriousness, if it weren’t for the synopsis accompanying the trailer, this post would basically say, “Hot people do daring things and look good while doing them. Go see it.”
In reality, here is what the movie is actually about.
Set in 1969 Los Angeles, TV star Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt) make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. The ninth film from writer-director Tarantino features a large ensemble cast — including Margot Robbie — and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age.
The trailer opens with Dalton and Booth being interviewed and immediately showcases the film’s irreverent tone. In the middle there’s a weird, possibly great Bruce Lee impression, followed by a few shots of Robbie engaging in what we’d assume to be general Hollywood hijinks. The trailer ends with DiCaprio accepting a heartfelt compliment from an adorable little girl, and crying — whether genuinely or to further demonstrate his superb acting qualities, who knows.
Confused? Yeah, me too (but in the best way possible). Watch the full trailer below!
