Marshmallows, this latest reboot news is for you.

Following the conclusion of the original series and then the years-later reunion movie, Veronica Mars is getting a straight-to-series order on Hulu.

Kristen Bell will return as the iconic detective, with the series set to debut next year on the streaming site. Series creator Rob Thomas will be back to executive produce the new series and write the first episode. Bell will also executive produce alongside Diane Ruggiero-Wright and Dan Etheridge. While Thomas and Bell will both be returning to the new series, no other casting announcements have been made.

Bell made the official announcement yesterday on her Instagram page.

As part of Hulu’s deal with Warner Bros., the streaming giant acquired the SVOD rights to all the past episodes of the original series. Seasons 1, 2, 3, and the Kickstarter-funded 2014 film will be available to stream on the site next summer. (I’m already planning my rewatch binge before the new episodes drop!)

These new episodes will focus around a singular case for Mars to solve. According to new series logline, spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, which decimates the tourist business of Neptune. It’s up to Mars Investigation (because, who else would you even call really??) to find the killer. While investigating, Veronica is drawn into a mystery that “pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.”

While the 2014 movie was nostalgic, the new limited series will be “hardcore So-Cal noir,” Thomas confirmed on Twitter.

Thomas dropped more hints, sharing that the new plot is based on the Veronica Mars mystery book he wrote, Thousand Dollar Tan Line, but will jump ahead five years post-movie to tell a completely new story.
