After Disney’s purchase of 21st Century Fox, the future of several superhero movies has been up in the air. But even with a change in leadership as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige prepares to take over the X-Men franchise, the X-Men movies are not slowing down in the slightest.
When the Disney takeover was first announced, previous reports suggested that Gambit and other Marvel projects might be in jeopardy, but according to X-Men: Dark Phoenix director and Gambit producer Simon Kinberg, several X-Men movies are very much still in development, including Gambit and Multiple Man.
In an interview with IGN, Kinberg revealed more about his plans for Gambit, saying, “When you look at Gambit, he’s a hustler and a womanizer and we just felt like there was an attitude, a swagger to him, that lent itself to romantic comedy.” We wouldn’t expect anything less from a movie starring Channing Tatum.
“You know, when I say romantic comedy, I use that term loosely, in the same term that I use the term western for Logan loosely,” Kinberg further explained. “It’s not like they’re gunslingers at high noon in Logan. It’s just a vibe. And I would say the vibe of Gambit has a romantic or sex comedy vibe to it. While it is also still very much a superhero movie with villains and heroes, as all these movies are.”
Kinberg told IGN that the script for Multiple Man is also under development, as it waits on Drew Goddard to finish completing another film before he gets started with his role as director.
