THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

After months of rumors, name speculation, and fakeouts, Marvel finally released the first trailer for the fourth Avengers movie, which is officially titled Avengers: End Game. And it’ll give you chills. CAUTION: SPOILERS AHEAD.

The trailer is a bit of a downer, picking up in a post-Decimation (what Marvel has decided to call Thanos‘ attack) universe where Tony is floating alone out in space, while Cap, Natasha, Thor, and Bruce are the only ones left from the team down on Earth.

It opens with Tony recording a heartbreaking message to Pepper Pots, explaining that he ran out of food and water on the spaceship (where he was when Thanos snapped, and where his travel companions turned to dust), is almost out of oxygen, and knows his end is near.

“Don’t feel bad about this,” he says, before giving us what seems to be the movie’s unofficial tagline: “Part of the journey is the end.”

After showing Tony in space, the trailer moves back to Earth, where Cap and Natasha seem to be alone at the Avengers headquarters. According to Black Widow, Thanos did as he promised and wiped out 50 percent of all living creatures.

There are many shots of Decimation survivors being sad and alone, including Thor, Nebula, and a teary Captain America.

However, the remaining Avengers aren’t sitting idly by. The trailer includes a shot of Bruce in a lab, looking at the faces of the disintegrated on a screen. Cap and Natasha also seem to be discussing some sort of plan, as she says “This is going to work, Steve.”

“I know it is. Because I don’t know what I’m going to do if it doesn’t,” he replies. (Cue the tears now, thanks.)

The trailer also includes a few surprise appearances, most notably Clint Barton (aka Hawkeye), who wasn’t in Infinity WarHe appears quite dramaticallyhooded, in the rain, and with a swordto Natasha, and the look on his face makes it clear that The Decimation left him hurting.

The other surprise comes at the trailer’s end, when Scott Lang (Ant Man), comes knocking at the Avengers’ Headquarters. This means he somehow escapes from the quantum realm, where he was stranded during The Decimation.

Perhaps Scott will be the key, since he understands the quantum realm in a way that the other remaining Avengers don’t. Many fans speculate the the realm and time manipulation will be the key to undoing Thanos’ destruction.

Now excuse me as I go watch this trailer for the fifth time and start counting down the days until April.
