August is shaping up to be the month in which every event that was meant to take place this year and early next year will be happening — and we’re not complaining.

Among the most anticipated events is Free Comic Book Day. It will once again just be a singular, in-person event on Aug. 14. While it generally is the first Saturday in May, the creators behind the event believe that August should be more clear of the uncertainties brought on by COVID-19. Unless, of course, 2021 is worse than 2020 and aliens do in fact invade us.

“Free Comic Book Day has been the introduction to comics for so many and while the world has changed over these last 20 years, our love of comics and the power of comics to entertain and enlighten is stronger than ever,” says Joe Field, founder of Free Comic Book Day and owner of Flying Colors Comics & Other Cool Stuff in Concord, California. August’s event will mark 20 years since the first celebration and a welcome back to many people’s neighborhood comic stores.

Comic fans will be able to find up to 50 free titles available at their local shops. The titles will be announced to the public in March. In order to commemorate two decades of the event, fans will also be able to find themed t-shirts, posters, and a 20th-anniversary logo. Stay up to date at
