Today is Dec. 2, which means the days are shorter, the nights are colder, and winter is right around the corner. For ordinary people, this is all that comes to mind when one says “Winter is coming.” But every Game of Thrones fan knows that the phrase holds far more weight than a mere change of the seasons.
Well GOT fans, bundle up, because next year, you might be spending your winter visiting the first official Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Banbridge, Ireland, which is finally set to open in February. First announced back in 2019 and originally scheduled to open early last year, this fan experience was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
For the Game of Thrones Studio Tour, Linen Mill Studios is teaming up with Warner Bros. Studios to give fans of the fantasy epic a chance to immerse themselves in the world of Westeros. Starting at the Wall in the North, fans will journey from Castle Back all the way to Braavos, stopping at historic landmarks such as the Crypts of Winterfell and the Hall of Faces along the way.
Throughout the voyage, fans will have the chance to explore key production elements from the long-running series. Artistic journals from early stages of the show’s origination will be available for fans to look through, displaying detailed initial sketches of important landmarks and moments.
It’s no secret that Game of Thrones made abundant use of special effects (unless you think dragons are real, then you can ignore this) and on the tour, fans will get an inside look at the technology behind the effects with various green-screen sets! Fans who believe they could’ve been a part of the GOT cast can even put their acting skills to the test with the immersive green screen experience offered on the tour.
Tickets for the Game of Thrones Studio Tour are available now at gameofthronesstudiotour.com. A standard adult ticket is priced at $44.70, but there are also a host of different packages for students, seniors, and families. While a flight to Ireland might not be in the budget right now, if you ever find yourself in the Emerald Isle, this tour is definitely worth checking out.
