Who you gonna call … yourself, I guess!

As part of yesterday’s Ghostbusters Day celebration, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced a new, location-based virtual reality (VR) game during the ECTO-FEST fan event. Called Ghostbusters VR Academy, this fully-immersive training simulator — developed by virtual-reality entertainment company Hologate — will be broken up into two games and available to play globally at more than 400 locations by the end of this year.

The first game utilizes Hologate’s ARENA platform. In this interactive experience, players will strap on their proton packs and work as a team in high-risk ghost encounter scenarios, all whilst under the safeguard of academy grounds. The second game uses the company’s BLITZ vehicle simulator. Trainees will take the wheel in a prototype ECTO vehicle, which is available exclusively for evaluation at the academy. Players must compete to see who is the fastest, most skilled driver in a high-speed ghostly race and determine if the ECTO vehicle is worth joining the Ghostbusters’ garage. These two games are only available with the location-based VR offered by Hologate.

In addition to Ghostbusters VR Academy, Sony Pictures Entertainment also confirmed that Ghostbusters VR (working title), the in-house VR game announced in April at the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, will be coming to the Playstation VR2.

Although release dates for these games aren’t available yet, fans can find a Hologate location near them at hologate.com and follow @sonypicturesvr, @ghostbusters, and @hologate on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook for updates. Happy ghost hunting!
