Jeremy Irons, who DC fans probably best know as Alfred, it taking on a lead role in another DC adaptation, HBO’s Watchmen. Irons joins the previously announced cast, including Don Johnson. Regina King, Andrew Howard, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., and Adelaide Clemons.

Damon Lindelof, the writer tasked with adapting the series, has been itching to work with Irons ever since watching his 1988 movie, Dead Ringers. Lindelof said,“I was in awe of the raw brilliance of the lead actor… and his brother was just as good as he was! I vowed then and there to one day work with at least one of them. That day is today. Mr. Irons… I am honored. Thanks for taking the watch, man.”

Day 140.

While the series is inspired by the original Watchmen comics Lindelof made it clear that this is not a remake of the OG comics. He said, “We have no desire to ‘adapt’ the twelve issues Mr. Moore and Mr. Gibbons created thirty years ago. Those issues are sacred ground and they will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted… they will, however, be remixed.”

Although they haven’t announced Irons’ character yet, there is a rumor that he’ll be playing an English Lord. Given Lindelof’s clear passion and love for the originals, whatever the end result may be, it will be done with a significant amount of passion and care.
