It actually happened: Frozen 2‘s perch at the top of the box office was surpassed when Jumanji: The Next Level opened this past weekend.
The Jumanji sequel managed to earn an impressive $60.1 million at the domestic box office, making it Sony’s largest December opening ever, according to Box Office Mojo. With Jumanji’s new position, it knocked Frozen II down to No. 2 in the rankings for the first time in forever (well, since its November release).
The Disney flick did earn $19.2 million over the weekend domestically, which helped its global total reach $1.032 billion, Box Office Mojo reports. This new record marks Disney’s sixth picture to reach the $1 billion milestone this year alone. If anyone has won the year, it’s certainly Disney.
