Mixtape, a musical drama starring Jenna Dewan, Callie Hernandez, and Madeline Stowe, is moving on over to Netflix after its pilot debuted on Fox. Netflix gave the series a 10-episode order.
The male lead will be recast, meaning some scenes from the pilot will need to be refilmed to reflect the change in actor. Dewan, Hernandez, and Stowe will continue filming, along with Jahmil French, Campbell Scott, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Megan Furguson, and Evan Whitten, all part of the original cast.
The show is a romantic musical drama written by former Smash showrunner and Quantico creator Josh Safran, and follows the relationships connecting a diverse group of people in Los Angeles. The official tagline of the series is “We all have our own soundtracks.”
Mixtape is the third broadcast pilot picked up by Netflix after missing the cut on cable TV. Other series that Netflix snatched include Insatiable from the CW, Lucifer from Fox, and All About the Washingtons, starring Rev Run, from ABC. Netflix is also in negotiations to revive the Kiefer Sutherland political thriller, Designated Survivor, after its cancellation on ABC.
