LEGO Super Mario

From Minecraft to Contra, many of your favorite games are making the jump from pixels to the physical world this year, and a certain plumber just couldn’t be left out.

Following a pair of tweets from Nintendo and the LEGO Group this week, the full details of their Super Mario Bros. collaboration have been revealed.

LEGO Super Mario is a new product line that changes how players can interact with Super Mario in the physical world by using an electronic, interactive Mario figure to collect coins in levels built with LEGO Bricks.

“I have always liked LEGO products and how they help children use their imagination to play,” says Takashi Tezuka, executive officer and game producer of Nintendo Co., Ltd. “The new product we created together with the LEGO Group seeks to combine two different styles of play — one where you freely build the world of Mario and the other where you play with Mario in the very world that you have created.”

See it in action in the video below.

LEGO Super Mario sets will be available later this year.
