We are just one week away from Star Trek Day, which CBS is celebrating on Sept. 8 this year to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the date that “The Man Trap” — aka the pilot episode of Star Trek: The Original Series — first aired.
Fans can expect a lot of content for the second annual Star Trek Day celebration, including a livestream that will kick off at 5:30 p.m. PT. Hosted by Wil Wheaton and Mica Burton, this livestream will last about two hours and will reunite cast members and creative minds from 10 Star Trek television series. Fans can get more updates about the virtual celebration here.
To get in the spirit of celebrating Star Trek, we also have updates about some new and upcoming Star Trek merch.
First off, Hero Collector is about to launch Star Trek: The Original Series — A Celebration. This 256-page coffee table book (pictured top, left) looks back at the series that started it all, also commemorating its 55th anniversary. Written by Ben Robinson and Ian Spelling, the book features new and archival interviews, more than 200 photos and sketches from the making of the series, and more. It is available to preorder now for $34.95 and will officially debut on Sept. 21. This is the second installment in Hero Collector’s Star Trek Celebration book series, following Star Trek: Voyager — A Celebration.
This week, Toynk also added to its (already-expansive) Star Trek offerings with a variety of new items. These include a Star Trek: The Next Generation 100-piece engineering field kit — which has 100 gadgets in a Star Trek-inspired case — and a Star Trek: The Original Series “Boldly Go” beach towel.
The highlight of this new drop, however, is a Star Trek: The Next Generation Cats Sunshade (pictured, top right). As the name suggests, this Toynk-exclusive sunshade features the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise… as cats! These new items and Toynk’s full collection of Star Trek collectibles, home goods, and other merch is available to shop at toynk.com.
