Calling all New York nerds: Mark your calendars for the fan verification and registration dates for New York Comic-Con (NYCC), held at the Javits Center October 4-7.
For those who are new to the NYCC process, to avoid the dreaded up-sale of tickets from bottom-feeding resellers who cause TRUE fans to miss out on the epic event or pay exorbitant prices for passes, ReedPOP requires all con-goers to get fan verified before securing their tickets.
Potential NYCC attendees are required to sign up and submit some information, including email, address, and Hogwarts house (just kidding) before tickets go on sale. This is a measure that began two years ago to get actual fans in the seats for the actual price of the con instead of the $1k markup that would inevitably happen without this precaution. No purchase is necessary to become fan verified—but it also doesn’t guarantee you a ticket.
Already fan verified? You should get an email by June 9 to confirm your status. Verified fans from 2016 and 2017 get the first stab at tickets on June 10, and then fan verification will open up for unverified fans on June 13 and close on July 8. Badges will be available for purchase Hunger Games-style for any verified fan. Tickets sell out in the blink of an eye, so it’s a wise choice to create alliances with friends with the hope that one person might be able to snag some full-weekend badges, and remember: four badges can be purchased at once. May the odds be ever in your favor.
