Will Smith dropped out of the Suicide Squad sequel last week due to a jam-packed schedule, but sources say Warner Bros. has found its new leading man.

Variety reports that Idris Elba is the studio’s top choice to replace Smith as Deadshot in the franchise’s second film, becoming the latest actor to join the squad.

If the rumors are true, it won’t be Elba’s first time playing a bit of an anti-hero. The award-winning actor played the title character in BBC’s Luther off and on for nine years. (He’s got this.) Elba also stars in the upcoming Netflix series Turn Up Charlieand films Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and Cats, both of which release later this year.

While it’s assumed that Margot Robbie will sign on for round two, there’s still much that’s unknown about this film, which is slated to begin production in September. We know that James Gunn is writing and directing, and the release is set for Aug. 6, 2021, buttttt that’s about it.

Stay tuned. …
