Shortly before the final episode of Game of Thrones premiered, one of the show’s biggest stars reportedly checked into a wellness retreat. Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow for all eight seasons of the HBO series, apparently checked into the facility due to stress and alcohol use.
Page Six first broke the story yesterday, with a representative for Harington saying, “Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues.”
Ahead of the show’s finale, Harington spoke often on talk shows about having a difficult time with the show ending, joking about crying when he read the final episode and telling GQ that he had a “full-on breakdown” as he filmed his final scenes on the show.
In the new behind-the-scenes GoT documentary, The Last Watch, fans actually get to see some of this emotional reaction. One scene shows the cast’s final table read when Harington learns that *spoiler alert* Snow ultimately kills his aunt/lover/queen, Daenerys. The actor covers his mouth in surprise and begins to cry, making eye contact with actress Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys.
Harington also addressed the show’s impact on his mental health during an interview with Variety before the season eight premiere. He says that Snow becoming the focal point of the show, when he died and came back to life, was an especially difficult time.
“It wasn’t a very good time in my life,” he says. “I felt I had to feel that I was the most fortunate person in the world when actually, I felt very vulnerable. I had a shaky time in my life around there — like I think a lot of people do in their 20s. … That was a time when I started therapy and started talking to people,” he says, “I had felt very unsafe, and I wasn’t talking to anyone.”
According to Page Six, Harington has been spotted in the Connecticut town near the wellness facility. This stay will reportedly not impact any of his future, planned projects.
