Loki is about to meet his match — if his match isn’t already Owen Wilson.
Actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw has been cast in the upcoming Disney+ series, the growing cast of which now includes Wilson, Yesterday’s Sophia Di Martino, and Tom Hiddleston. Hiddleston is reprising his role as the Asgardian antihero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Mbatha-Raw was most recently seen opposite Edward Norton in the Fight Club actor’s directorial debut: Motherless Brooklyn. The English actress was also seen on Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, the Emmy-winning “San Junipero” episode of Black Mirror, and Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time and live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Loki marks her third project with the company.
The MCU series will reportedly follow Loki’s travels with the Tesseract throughout time and space, illustrating the God of Mischief’s impact on historical events — a rich man’s Bill and Ted, if you will.
Other highly anticipated Marvel series to debut on the streaming platform include this year’s WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, plus future projects surrounding Hawkeye, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel.
Loki will likely be released next year. Catch a (very) brief glimpse of the action to come in the Super Bowl spot below.
