It’s been more than two months since Disney fired Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, but the fans still aren’t over it.
Mobilizing and crowdsourcing through a GoFundMe campaign that raised nearly $5,000, a group of outraged fans paid for a digital billboard that reads, “Save the Galaxy: James Gunn for Vol. 3.”
The billboard, which drivers can see from the California 22 eastbound freeway before the Harbor Blvd. exit, is paid through Nov. 25. It also gives the address for a website, RehireJamesGunn.com, which lists arguments for rehiring Gunn and links to donate to the billboard campaign and sign a change.org petition (which has 423,570 signatures).
The location is intentionally close to Disneyland, and the fans hope to raise enough money for a billboard in an even closer location in December.
Despite fans’ efforts, it seems unlikely that Disney will rehire Gunn. At the moment, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on hold, while Gunn has reportedly been chosen to write the sequel to Suicide Squad.
