According to Todd McFarlane, 2021 will be the Year of Spawn.

McFarlane — creator of the character Spawn and president of Image Comics — announced that he will launch a multi-character, interconnected comic book universe. Spawn will be at the forefront of the initial launches in this shared comic book world.

McFarlane revealed plans for four new titles for this year, three of which will become regular, monthly titles, which means fans will be able to enjoy Spawn stories on a weekly basis, instead of monthly.

The first title, “Spawn’s Universe No. 1” will be available in June. It sets the stage with a story that will spin out into the monthly titles. The first monthly title, set to arrive in August, is “King Spawn No. 1”

In October, the second monthly, “Gunslinger Spawn,” will arrive in comic book stores, featuring this popular Hellspawn from The West.

Finally, Spawn, Redeemer, Gunslinger, Medieval Spawn, and She-Spawn will all team up for “The Scorched,” a team book that brings these characters together to fight against forces too big for them to take on alone. McFarlane says that the cast of heroes in this series will rotate, and fans can expect new, major villains as well.

To produce this expanding list of titles, McFarlane has recruited a roster of creators, which so far includes Art Adams, Jason Shawn Alexander, Carlo Barberi, Brett Booth, J. Scott Campbell, Greg Capullo, Donny Cates, Jim Cheung, Mike del Mundo, Javier Fernandez, David Finch, Jonathan Glapion, Kevin Keane, Aleš Kot, Puppeteer Lee, Sean Lewis, Sean Gordon Murphy, Ben Oliver, Stephen Segovia, Paulo Siqueira, Marc Silvestri, Marcio Takara, and Frank Quitely.

The past two years have been very active for the Spawn brand, as McFarlane released the record-breaking “Spawn No. 301,” revealed plans for a Spawn movie — which is currently in development with BlumHouse Studios — and launched the Original Spawn Action Figure and Comic Book Remastered on Kickstarter, raising nearly $3.5 million in 30 days and winning a People’s Choice Toy of the Year Award.
