While the world of conventions remains mostly paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, collectibles companies have become particularly creative at hosting virtual events to engage fans and showcase new products.
Last summer, pop culture collectible company Super7 hosted a four-day virtual convention packed with exclusive toy releases, product reviews, guest appearances, daily giveaways, and more. As we face another July without an in-person Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC), this virtual mini-convention is returning next week. And this time, it has an even longer name.
Introducing: The Super7 Spectacular Kinda Sorta Still-at-Home-ic-Con.
Whew. That’s a mouthful.
Although the company hasn’t revealed much about the event yet, Super7 posted an introductory video announcing the convention to fans. Brian Flynn returns as the host in the promotional content, teasing attendees as he travels through the empty streets of San Fransisco with nothing but a suitcase. Surprises are definitely in store, with the company promising an upcoming launch of new exclusives.
This event will most likely be structured like last year, when Super7 uploaded daily YouTube videos filled with exciting announcements. The individual days each had a theme hinting at the upcoming releases, including TMNT “Turtle Power,” Peanuts, Monster Mix, and Designer Delights. These videos, all shorter than 10 minutes, featured new fandom collectibles and interviews with different designers.
Fans can get updates about the Super7 Spectacular Kinda Sorta Still-at-Home-ic-Con by signing up for Super7’s email list and watching Super7’s social media. The virtual event kicks off on July 6 at 10 a.m. PT.
