The Shining taught us what happens when life’s all work and no play — spoiler alert: it’s not good. But horror fans can avoid becoming dull with a new board game from The Op called Escape from the Overlook Hotel.

Inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s film adaptation of The Shining (and just in time for its 40th anniversary) this new game puts one or more players through an immersive, real-time experience as they solve puzzles, unlock clues, and use in-game abilities to find a way out of the Overlook Hotel. Players take on the roles of Wendy and Danny Torrance as they try to escape the murderous wrath of their husband/father, Jack.

The cooperative, escape-the-room-style game utilizes the Coded Chronicles mechanic, providing more than two hours of complex content. It’s basically the gamer’s equivalent of the Overlook hedge maze, if you will.

Escape from the Overlook Hotel will be available from theop.games and legal game stores this fall for $29.99. Start honing your Shining abilities now!
