Are you (optimus) primed for the ultimate Autobots comeback?
It’s been 35 years since Decepticons first faced off with Autobots on the big screen. To commemorate this momentous occasion, Fathom Events and Hasbro are bringing the ‘80s animated feature back to theatres in The Transformers: The Movie 35th Anniversary. For two days only, fans can relive the hour-and-a-half-long space robot smackdown on the big screen along with exclusive content.
Earlier this year, the movie was remastered and re-released in 4K with a two-disc Blu-ray set and steelbook packaging. Directed by Nelson Shin, the animated feature takes place in the same timeline as the ‘80s TV series. In case you need a synoptic refresher, the Autobots and Decepticons are duking it out while Unicron heads for Cybertron to devour the Transformers homeworld and wipe the Autobots and Decepticons from existence. The only hope is the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, as they take on a precarious mission to save their planet while danger lurks in every corner. It features a star-studded cast that includes Eric Idle (Monty Python), Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek), Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club), and even Citizen Kane director Orson Welles.
The feature film will be released in theatres nationwide on Sept. 26 at noon and Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. (local time). Tickets will be available for purchase in late August at fathomevents.com and through participating cinemas’ box offices. For more information about the event, along with Transformers news and product reveals, tune into Hasbro Pulse’s Fan First Friday through the Hasbro YouTube channel on Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. ET.
The next movie in the Transformers franchise, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, is slated for a June 24 release next year.
