The Walking Dead’s season nine midseason finale aired last Sunday on AMC with a new ratings low at 5.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen Live+Same Day data. This year’s ratings are significantly lower than the season eight midseason finale, which was previously the lowest-rated with 7.9 million viewers last year.
The season nine midseason finale also averaged a 2.0 rating in adults ages 18-49, which is down from last year’s 3.4 rating.
The highest-rated and most watched midseason finale was season five, with 14.8 million viewers and a 7.6 rating. The episode aired in November of 2014 and was titled “Coda,” when Beth (Emily Kinney) and Carol (Melissa McBride) were trapped in the hospital.
The current season hit a slump with new ratings lows multiple times this year. Perhaps fans are losing interest after Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) departure.
