Do we dare say… It’s a Christmas miracle?
After delays, postponements, and plenty of uncertainty, Wonder Woman 1984 is officially heading to HBO Max on Dec. 25 in the U.S. It will still debut theatrically (in locations where theaters are open), but fans can also watch the highly anticipated sequel from the cozy comfort of home.
You will need an HBO Max subscription (or a well-timed free trial) to watch the movie, but it will be available at no additional cost.
When the news broke, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and Wonder Woman herself (Gal Gadot) shared statements on Twitter about the decision to send the movie directly to streaming. As Jenkins wrote, “At some point you have to choose to share any love and joy you have to give over everything else. … We hope that our film brings a little bit of joy and reprieve to all of you this holiday season.”
Wonder Woman 1984 is the second major studio movie to get a streaming release on Dec. 25 — Disney and Pixar’s Soul will also debut on Disney+ on Christmas day. Sounds like we’re all in for a double-feature!
