Konami Cross Media has named PhatMojo the master toy licensee for its Yu-Gi-Oh! brand, which means duel masters are about to get a ton of new merch.
PhatMojo, a Los Angeles-based company, will produce a variety of Yu-Gi-Oh! playsets, action figures, plush toys, and role-play items at various price points. The initial lineup of products is expected to launch by next year’s holiday season in the U.S. and Canada.
Yu-Gi-Oh! may be remembered most by ‘90s kids who were just too cool for Pokémon (or just loved all trading card games equally). Although the anime first came out in 1998, it’s never really left the heart of fans and has been around in many forms over the past 23 years. PhatMojo states it’s in the business to build memories, so fans will be able to spark that nostalgia and maybe even get some new players into the mix.
“This new deal with PhatMojo will allow fans to re-engage with their favorite characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series and add a whole new level to their trading card gameplay,” says Jennifer Coleman, vice president of licensing and marketing at Konami.
Fans can prepare for the new merch by catching all five seasons of the original anime on Hulu.
