Ever wonder what it would be like if dinosaurs walked among us?
Wonder no more! Thanks to Jurassic World Alive, a new augmented reality app, you’ll never walk alone.
The game, launched through a partnership with Universal and mobile-game publisher Ludia, is the follow-up to the 2015 mobile game, Jurassic World: The Game. Using location-based technology and augmented reality (AR), everyone’s favorite prehistoric bbs come to life IRL. That’s right—DINOS. IRL. Brb, all my dreams are coming true.
Jurassic World Alive works similar to Pokémon Go, if you were on board with that fad. (I was not—dinosaurs are more my speed, but to each her own.) As you wander about your own neighborhood or city, you can encounter these wonderful beasts and collect DNA samples via an in-game drone. The future is now.
For the most part, the drone is easy to control. The more accurately you strike the dino to collect DNA samples, the more points you get. The more points you get the more dinos you can collect, upgrade, and more. The gameplay is easy enough that a non-gamer like me can do it, but not too simple that you’d be over it in a hot sec. Just be careful and aware of your surroundings out there, dino hunters!
You get to see a lot of classic faves, but also some new dino baes from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. But even better than just collecting them, you have the ability to level them up and strengthen them. AND THEN YOU CAN DO PLAYER-VERSUS-PLAYER BATTLES. Sorry, I’m so excited. You and other players can legit battle dinosaurs. Battle. Dinosaurs.
Ok, so you have the dinos. Now what?
When you level them up and battle them, you can earn more rewards. You can also use the AR technology—you’re not ready for this—to interact with the dino collection IRL, capture those moments through photos and videos, and send them to everyone to prove that you’re a better person than they are.
What’s great about this app is that it fully immerses you in the (Jurassic) world that we love, but in your own space. It brings fans closer to the dinos they love, and adds a collectability factor that is straight up addicting.
And remember, my friends: Life finds a way.
