While 2018 saw a vast array of movies come out, none dominated the box office as much as superhero films.
According to Gitesh Pandya, the founder of Box Office Guru, seven of the top 11 grossing films in North America were about superheroes.

As noted on Pandya’s Twitter, Black Panther came out on top with a gross of $700.1 million, beating out Avengers: Infinity War, which ended up earning $678.8 million. Other superhero-themed films on the list include Incredibles 2, Deadpool 2, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Aquaman, and Venom.
The only non-hero movies to make the list were The Grinch, Mission: Impossible–Fallout, and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
It seems 2019 is suiting up to once again heavily feature superheroes. The MCU will release Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home, while DC will release Shazam!, and Fox presents X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants.
