Professor Flitwick has taken some time off from his duties of reprimanding Hogwarts students to bring some joy this holiday season. Actor Warwick Davis joined together with a bunch of other witches and wizards to bring some Christmas cheer by making an album that will raise money for the charity Lumos. Founded by J.K. Rowling, the charity fights to keep children out of orphanages.
The album, titled A Magical Time of Year, features singing from actors from the Harry Potter films, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and The Cursed Child. Fans who were hoping to hear the Phelps brothers’ rendition of “Jingle Bells” will just have to wait. Instead, there’s a clever mix of Christmas classics — some standard and some, uh, unusual. Plus, £1.20 (that’s $1.58 in U.S. dollars) from every album sold will be donated to the charity.
Ezra Miller covers “O Holy Night” in a haze of ’80s synthesizer, delivering the unique rendition we didn’t know we needed. Earlier on in the tracklist, Kevin Guthrie sings “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” and puts the listener into the comfortable candy-cane cloud we’re used to this time of year.
