Marvel isn’t the only one connecting worlds across platforms. The DC movie universe and the DC TV universe were officially linked on screen in a recent episode of the CW crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths — when the Flash met his pal the Flash.
Ezra Miller, who plays Barry Allen and his speedy superhero alter ego the Flash in the DC films (also known as the DC Extended Universe or DCEU), made a surprise cameo in the TV event when his Flash and Grant Gustin’s Flash met inside the Speed Force. When they both reveal that they’re named Barry Allen, Miller says he knew the likelihood of there being other Flashes (and other worlds) was possible, verbalizing what fans and comic book readers have known for years.
DC Comics have used a multiverse to tell their superhero arcs since the early 1960s, so it’s no surprise the film world of DC — including Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad — lives in a world parallel to the DC series within the Arrowverse; this crossover event finally confirms it.
The DC multiverse has shifted and evolved many times over the years, so if you need some clarification, DC Comics has a starter explainer that makes it (somewhat) less confusing. Read it and rewatch the CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths to get an inkling of how past films and TV shows, such as Lucifer, Smallville, Titans, Superman Returns, and even Michael Keaton’s Batman, exist within parallel universes.
