For the second year in a row, there will not be a Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC).
Today, the SDCC team announced via an online statement that, due to a continuing concern for public health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, the fan convention will not take place in person as scheduled for this July. “While we are buoyed by the rollout of the vaccine and the growing number of individuals being inoculated, it appears that July will still be too early to safely hold an in-person event of the magnitude of Comic-Con,” the statement says.
Instead, fans will be able to enjoy another free, virtual Comic-Con@Home event, which will take place from July 23-25. This follows WonderCon@Home, which will take place on March 26-27.
However, the statement also reveals plans for a smaller, three-day, in-person convention this November. Specific details such as attendance capacity, badge cost, and specific dates will be announced in the future on comic-con.org.
Anyone who purchased badges for last year’s SDCC that rolled over to the 2021 show will automatically have their badges transferred to SDCC 2022, unless they request a refund. The SDCC team is also working on an option for those wishing to transfer their badges to this year’s November event.
