Yesterday, comic book artist, McFarlane Toys founder, and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane revealed a new, television development and production arm within McFarlane Films.
The company’s initial television slate includes projects from Night at the Museum writer Thomas Lennon, Interrogation creator Anders Weidemann, graphic novel author Sean Lewis, and Bojack Horseman producer ShadowMachine.
The new branch currently has two specific series in production. The first is McFarland, a stop-motion, animated series from Lennon in partnership with ShadowMachine and the production company Wiip. The series will feature original McFarlane Toys products and is described in an official release as “Night at the Museum meets Toy Story in Twin Peaks.”Â
The second series is a live-action drama called Thumbs, inspired by Lewis’ best-selling graphic novel series. The show will follow 17-year-old Charlie “Thumbs” James, an outsider who enters an esports tournament in hopes of winning a scholarship from tech billionaire Adrien Camus, only to find himself — according to the series description — “fighting real life and death battles in a covert war between Camus’ teenage army and a neo-fascist anti-tech movement that is about to take over the U.S.”
In addition to these two new series, McFarlane Films is working on the previously announced live-action series Sam & Twitch, which will feature the characters Sam Burke and Max “Twitch” Williams from McFarlane’s Spawn comics.
