As announced yesterday, Dec. 21, Embracer Group has entered an agreement to acquire Dark Horse Media, the parent company of Dark Horse Comics, Dark Horse Entertainment, and the online comic book shop Things from Another World.
Following this acquisition, Dark Horse will become the tenth operative group within Embracer, joining THQ Nordic, Gearbox Entertainment, and others. Dark Horse Founder and CEO Mike Richardson will continue to lead the company and existing management will stay on board.
Dark Horse has control of more than 300 intellectual properties (IP), including The Umbrella Academy and Hellboy. Embracer hopes to expand Dark Horse’s IP through a variety of media ventures, most notably video games.
This transaction is expected to close early next year, with this announcement serving as an eventful close to Dark Horse Comics’ 35th-anniversary year. Additional details about this acquisition and these companies are available here.
