The cast of Ghosts was at New York Comic Con (NYCC) last weekend to discuss the new season, plot lines, and new characters.
The crowd watched the premiere of the new season before greeting the cast. The season debut introduced a new member of the cast, Patience, portrayed by Mary Holland. The Puritan ghost has exited a cave and is living with her former friends.
“We’re so happy to have Mary on set,” said Brandon Scott Jones, who plays Captain Isaac Higgintoot on the show. “She is so, so hilarious. Even in the script, the character was described as unhinged and insane. She’s such a wrench in what is an oiled system,” he continues.
In the new season, Patience will accuse Samantha (played by Rose McIver) of being a witch, since she can see ghosts. “She has been waiting hand on foot on these guys. It’s a betrayal,” McIver jokes.
And there are more surprises abound this year: Audiences will meet Jay’s parents in this year’s “Ghostmas” episode, and Dean Morris — who was cast to play Samantha’s father — will star in Thursday’s episode.
“We’ve not talked about him for three years,” McIver noted, “Which says to me there’s something to talk about.”
A true mystery to keep fans on the edge of their seats, Ghost Hippie Flower, portrayed by Sheila Carrasco, will remember … something. “Now that Flower is back in the house, she starts to grow a bit and remember things. Whenever Flower remembers something, you know it will be good, or at least crazy,” Carrasco said. Flower spent most of last season trapped in a well while Carrasco was on maternity leave.
McIver explained what a privilege it is to be on a show that’s existed for four seasons. She revealed to the crowd that she will even get to direct an episode this season. “I’m excited to put on an old-fashioned beret,” she laughed. “There’s a lot of people skills and diplomacy. Maybe I’m trying to channel Samantha.”
The cast was thrilled to find people dressed in character during the panel, including Isaac and his beloved dinosaur. “Without the context, it’s just a character from the [Revolutionary War],” Jones joked.
New episodes of Ghosts air on Thursdays on CBS. Watch it live or through Paramount+.
