Ever since Marvel released Iron Man in 2008, superhero movies have given fans a quirky, silly, and joyful tone. While movies across Marvel’s Cinematic Universe are fun and games, Todd McFarlane‘s Spawn film will be quite the opposite.
In a recent interview with Nerdist, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane revealed that his upcoming flick will in fact be joyless, dark, and ugly—in a good way.
According to McFarlane, Spawn will “go in a different corner that nobody is touching right now” and will introduce a character that is a “deeply serious, dark, and almost disturbing R version of a superhero character.”
“There’s no joy. There’s gonna be no fun lines in it, and it’s just gonna be this dark, ugly two hours worth of movie, which is essentially what a lot of supernatural/horror movies are anyway,” he added.
Spawn doesn’t have a release date as of yet, but here’s hoping it gets one soon.
