Alamo Drafthouse is celebrating pride this year by rereleasing iconic LGBTQ+ movies.
Some of the movies Alamo Drafthouse is showing this month include Robin Williams and Nathan Lane’s The Birdcage, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and Pedro Almodóvar’s Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! The Birdcage and The Adventures of Priscilla will be featured at special brunch screenings while Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! is a part of Alamo Drafthouse’s Queer Film Theory 101 Series.
All month, moviegoers can directly support the LGBTQ+ community by donating $1, $3, or $5 to Point Foundation, the country’s largest LGBTQ+ scholarship fund. Alamo Drafthouse will match any donation made up to $5,000. Alamo Drafthouse is also participating in the Chicago Pride Parade along with pride events in Austin, Texas; San Francisco, California; Washington, DC; Springfield, Missouri; Laredo, Texas; and Corpus Christi, Texas.
“Alamo Drafthouse has been and always will be a safe place for people, including the LGBTQ+ community, to share in their love of cinema,” says Michael Kusterman, CEO of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. “We could not be more proud to champion these films and support the vital work of organizations like Point Foundation.”
You can also snag Alamo Drafthouse’s Pride merch, which includes two T-shirts, a tote bag, and a trucker cap. Whether you’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community yourself or just a proud ally, it’s never a bad time to support LGBTQ+ cinema.
