The iconic theater chain Alamo Drafthouse is dedicating its upgraded location in downtown Brooklyn to filmmaker and NYC native Spike Lee.
This location was Alamo Drafthouse’s first location in New York, first opening its doors in 2016 with seven screens. The upgrade features five new auditoriums, upgraded laser projectors, RealD3D capabilities, 70mm and 35mm capabilities, and more.
To celebrate the dedication, Alamo Drafthouse is hosting a screening of Crooklyn, Lee’s 1994 semi-autobiographical film, along with a live Q&A session with the man himself. The theater will also screen other iconic Spike Lee films, including Mo’ Better Blues, Jungle Fever, Do the Right Thing, Clockers, and Inside Man throughout this month and into October.
“After completing this massive upgrade to our Brooklyn location, we knew immediately that we wanted to dedicate it to Spike Lee,” says Michael Kustermann, Alamo Drafthouse CEO. “His films have defined Brooklyn for generations, and we’re immensely proud to do our part to honor that legacy.”
