Everyone knows the Carlton dance that actor Alfonso Ribeiro made famous in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Fans may even recognize the moves as one of the dance emotes available for purchase and download in Epic Games’ Fortnite. Ribeiro is suing both Epic Games and NBA 2K Sports creator, Take-Two Interactive, for using the dance without permission or credit, he claims. He’s also asking for a judge’s order to remove the dance from both games.
According to Deadline, the lawsuit claims that Epic “unfairly profited from exploiting Ribeiro’s protected creative expression and likeness and celebrity without his consent or authorization.”
Rapper 2 Milly also filed a lawsuit against Epic Games earlier this month, claiming that Fortnite’s “Swipe It” dance was stolen from the rapper’s “Milly Rock” dance without permission or compensation. Backpack Kid—famous for starting the “Floss” dance—filed a lawsuit as well, according to TMZ.
Earlier this year, actor Donald Faison made a similar claim that Fortnite stole a dance from his character on a season five episode of Scrubs.
