We must go, yeeees, we must go at once — to Andy Serkis‘ Hobbitathon, which may be the best Lord of the Rings content we’ve gotten this year.
In this 12-hour livestream (which is now on hour seven), actor Andy Serkis — aka Gollum, aka Smeagol — is reading the entirety of J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Whether you settle down for all 12 hours or just catch a quick snippet, the broadcast is sure to make you smile as you watch Serkis read from the comfort of his home (complete with a Gollum statue in-frame and plenty of animated hand gestures).
To top it off, this event doubles as a fundraiser to help those — specifically in the UK — who have been impacted by the coronavirus. You can donate to the cause through this GoFundMe page, and profits will be split between two nonprofits: Best Beginnings and NHS Charities Together.
According to the GoFundMe description, fans could expect a “special surprise” if the fundraiser made at least £100,000. The fundraiser currently has raised more than double that amount, at £211,538. So keep watching, and hopefully you’ll get to see this special surprise.
